Death News Article - J. C.
W. Seymour, in the clerk's office of County
Commissioners, yesterday
received word that his son, W. W. Seymour, had
been found murdered in his
bed on his ranch in Grass Valley, about thirty
miles from Fort Duchesne,
Utah. The time of the murder either on Jan 14
or 15, he was alone. the
remains were found by his friend Chadwick who
immediately telegraphed
Seymour's father in Denver. The cause of the death
is under investigation. In
response to a telegram from Mr. Charles Brooks,
a son of Colonel E. J. Brooks,
Clerk of the County Commissioners and the
dead man's uncle, Chadwick
replied "Found dead in bed:") Seymour's father
is in to frail health to
attempt the journey, but has written to the
District Attorney and US
Marshal at Salt Lake asking them to bring the
murderers to justice.
Young Seymour went to Utah in 1882 and was post
trader at Fort Thornburg
until the abandonment of the station. He and
Chadwick later occupied
neighboring ranches near Vernal. There was
constant disagreement with
the Mormons raising stock in the vicinity.,
There appeared to be
animosity toward Seymour, Chadwick and Charles Brooks,
who lived on the ranch for
a few years. The information points to
the culmination of the
long feud.
