Colo., within sight of the farm where he and his wife and seven children were to make

John Neal was killed today when he fell from his wagon and was trampled by the horses.

He was anxious to reach the ranch and prodded the horse with his shoe. He slipped

and fell to the tongue of the wagon. The team became frightened and began to kick

and run. Another wagon and buggy, with the rest of the family came up behind Neal's

Newton believes that her husband expected the bullet would kill her too. He had returned to

his home at 3227 Clayton St, intoxicated, shortly before 3 o'clock, after a night on the town.

He put his arm around his wife, drawing her close and fired into his head. She rushed from the

room to her sleeping daughter, by a former marriage. Newton met James Nichols, with whom he

worked, showed him the revolver and told he was going home to kill the whole family. The

mother and daughter survived. Newton was employed by John Meyers as a teamster, and according

to Meyers, was of a quarrelsome nature.  Mrs. Newton has four children by her former marriage,

three daughters and one son. The oldest daughter is 21 years old. An inquest will most likely

be held. (Extensive descriptive article.) RMN 10/09/1911 Page 1 Died - Oct 8, of 3227

appears to have committed suicide. She had engaged a room in the rear of the Old Baur

store, she was found with two bullets in her. Finding the pistol near her and a note

explaining what should be done with the money she had in Mancos Bank, point to suicide.

She had come alone from Aztec about a week ago. The note addressed to Mrs. Schultz, of

Dolores, noted Mrs. Nicholson had $442 in the bank and after funeral expenses the

balance should go to her husband. She was about 30 years old, a photographer and

traveled from town to town. She was seen in Mancos early last spring with her husband,

who current whereabouts are unknown. A coroner's jury has been called.
